The challenges facing our country are enormous and overwhelming, especially in poor and marginalized communities. Creating a positive and sustainable difference requires a structured and considered approach.

Skills Development is a strategic imperative for Bidvest Protea Coin. Developing our current and future employees is essential to achieving our business objectives.

Employee growth enables, among other things, excellent customer service and alignment with company goals. Developing future employees and communities has many benefits, including reducing unemployment and providing opportunities for entrepreneurship and self-determination.

Our state-of-the-art training centre, Gijima, and supporting training centres around the country is a testament to Bidvest Protea Coins’ commitment to skills development.

Sport / wellness / health

Sport gives hope, inspires, provides positive opportunities and role models and it creates an enabling environment. Our partner, Youthzones, creates an environment of social cohesion and trust through sport. It is the foundation on which the rest of the aspects of the Youthzone programme is built.

Bidvest Protea Coin continuously improves the sports facilities at Gijima. We have created a banner for Gijima Sports that houses the Gijima Sports Legends Programme. We host the annual Ziyawa under 14 soccer tournaments, the internal Bidvest Protea Coin Ziyawa Soccer Championship, cricket clinics, netball events and much more.

The multi-faceted annual Ziyawa Soccer Championship which is held at Gijima is the culmination and celebration of Bidvest Protea Coin, Gijima Sport, Youthzone and Amaverkykers sport initiatives throughout the year.

Sport is one of the four priority focus areas in Bidvest Protea Coin’s approach towards making a sustainable positive difference in the communities and environment within which we operate.

Bidvest Protea Coin has developed a comprehensive approach to the positive and sustainable development of disadvantaged communities, especially unemployed youth. Although our business is to provide our customers with integrated security solutions, we believe active sustainable development at the doorstep of disadvantaged communities increases overall corporate security. We provide positive opportunities, aspirations/beliefs and understandings through our relationship network which fosters lasting positive change thereby driving improved customer safety.

The partnership between Bidvest Protea Coin and Amaverkykers has spawned several successful small and micro businesses. In many instances, companies have evolved from enterprise to supplier development partners of Bidvest Protea Coin.

Amaverkykers fills niche gaps by working with vulnerable youth at risk at the grassroots level in the most disadvantaged areas.

Bidvest Protea Coin is excited about the prospects arising from its partnership with WIBC. Establishing a concept farm at our Gijima Facility has created a platform for launching many replicable and scalable projects in the future.

Bidvest Protea Coin through a select group of partners and unique relationships has managed to establish scalable and duplicatable businesses in disadvantaged communities across South Africa.

One of these partnerships between Bidvest Protea Coin and Amaverkykers has spawned several successful small and micro businesses.
